My name is David Sheppard and my Golly musicians collection came about by accident, someone at where I used to work had them, he retired and gave them to myself, I kept them on display at my workplace, until I was made redundant, and then I decided that the Golly's should have a new home with myself and my wife.
Since that time we have asked around to see if I had full collection, and to try and find out more about them, so far with the help of Liz Prigg I find that most were made by various companies some of which may have been abroad during the 1960's.
They are cast in plaster and are easily damaged, most seem to lose the ROBERTSON label, there are eight in the set comprising Accordionists, Bass, Clarinet, Guitar, Trumpeter, Saxophone, Drummer and the Vocalist.
I now have the full set of eight, having taken myself some two years to
find them all. There are variations of colour on some, in particular the Accordionist
and the Drummer, also there are variations on size, which is probably due
to different moulds being used over the years, and also perhaps the figures
being made by different manufactures.
It is very sad that some people find my little friends not PC, I suggest they
do their homework and lead a less prejudice life, as these little fellows
history, have NO colour background at all.
There are as far as I know two books written and available from Colin Dodds,
10 Woodcroft Kennington OXFORD OX1 5NH.
Liz has a excellent WEB site which contains very useful information on the
Golly badges and on the current issue of Golly Badges on http://www.gollycorner.co.uk
, also the latest devolopments in the Golly badge world, She can also be Emailed

The Golly trademark for Robertson’s jam for almost a century is being dropped Robertson's claim the image is outdated and bears little resemblance to today's needs..
He has been replaced by characters from Roald Dahi books, including Willy Wonka and the Big Friendly Giant. It is reported the Golly badges, which have been collected by millions a children and collectors have now been phased out.
What will this mean for Golly Collectors, only time will tell, it may mean the end of collecting as we now it at the moment, or it could rekindle interest amongst the older collector who would like relive their childhood memories.
For the younger collector it will possible mean very little, as they will be unable to remember this cheerful little fellow.

As you can see from this picture, there is also a complete set of Footballer's which are made of plastic or plaster, and are more modern than the musicians and are larger in size, I now have the complete set of the team, which has taken me several years to find them all.
Unfortunately a lot of them lose the yellow football, and I would suggest are not worth collecting. The plaster figures are of less value.
I have no connection Robertson's Jams.
